About the Show
Upper St. Clair Performing Arts Department will present the Tony Award-winning Musical On The Twentieth Century.
Last seen on Broadway in 2015 starring Kristin Chenoweth, the “madcap musical” addresses the efforts of Oscar Jaffe, a flamboyant theatrical impresario, as he tries to persuade Lily Garland, a glamorous film star — and his former amour — to star in his new stage production.
Hopeful that Lily’s involvement will guarantee a hit for Jaffe and save him from his creditors, as well as revitalize his floundering artistic reputation, Jaffe has 16 hours to work wonders. With the help of his two faithful henchmen, Owen O’Malley and Oliver Webb, and a somewhat offbeat religious activist, Letitcia Primrose, Jaffe struggle to outwit Lily, her movie star boyfriend Bruce Granit, as well as a rival producer, Max Jacobs.
The whole thing is set in the 1930’s aboard the Twentieth Century Limited, a luxury liner that ran from Chicago to New York in 16 hours.
